Debra in Houston, Texas opened an Etsy shop in April of 2011 called "Summer Bucket".

Her pieces are classic, yes, they are timeless.

She also has a spectacular gold necklace with a green amethyst, (I never knew that there were green amethysts, I had always thought they were all purple- I actually prefer the green- it is most lovely!)

An Attempt At Organizing My Year- Well a Very Small Portion of It....

I had this ratty, threadbare address book for years now....

I have thought several times about replacing it, yet I never seem to do it. So, when I woke his morning at the wee hour of around 2:15am, I thought, "Well, I have to do something quiet....". As I caught that address book in the corner of my eye, once again....

Though I had yet to obtain a replacement book, I was fortunate enough to have gotten a perfect little notebook (well, average size really), that was hand-bound with Winnie The Pooh on it from my bestest friend for a Christmas present! It has the most lovely saying written on the front of it, "Don't underestimate the value of Doing Nothing, of just going along, listening to it all. The things you can't hear, and not bothering."...

I figure, rather than use the pages as I would a notebook, until it was completely de-void of paper; and thought of the several plain office store tablets that I have for such use- I would load this beauty up with the names and addresses of my friends and family, phone numbers, etc. In the back of the book, I created an area for special dates to remember- by the month, so I know just what is in store for me in that area at a glance! (Pssst. funny, but August is blank, and some months are just jammed packed full of occasions....).

While I was putting in the dates, that I had to transfer from the individual's previous entry (not a very workable system, I may add...), I realized that I had lost some birth dates, etc. Needless to say, after checking pages of Facebook for a possible birthday displayed on the profiles ( 1 only on that exercise); I had to humble myself to ask the individuals outright in an e-mail.... *cough*

It is very uncomfortable to send an e-mail to people who you haven't talked to in such a long time- even if you WANT to talk to them.... I am still awaiting some responses nervously.... The adults were hard enough, but having to ask what their child's birth date is (when they are a close relative....)- well, very humiliating.....

Anyhow, it is a task that truly gives you a jog down the old "Memory Lane".... So sentimental.

As I was noting important dates, I realized that the calender on the wall shows absolutely NO holidays on it- none! Strange.... So I used my date book to go through each month and make note of when the "big ones" were in my book as well. Then I had an idea.... I ship internationally all of the time- and of course, like everyone else, my shop celebrates our US holidays...

This date book had a bizzilion holidays scattered throughout the year- and for which country it was observed. Alot of the holidays I had not heard of, so I looked them up, how they observe them, etc..... I will enjoy celebrating some of these international holidays with my friends on the other side of the world this year. Wont my Australian customers be shocked to see my promotion for "Eight Hour Day" in March?!? Haha- YES! I had to look it up also, but this was a delightfully fun research project! I have come away from it so much more informed- even excited....

One small piece of my quest for organization, may I consider it even 1%.... *giggles*
That's ok- there are many more days left of 2012, may it be awesome!

Can You Help Out Just A Bit?

I was on Twitter earlier this evening, and I met someone who needs help for a cause that invests in our future by putting young students who cannot afford to go, into college. This is a newly created (within the last couple of years) annual fundraiser, and we all know how tough it is on these kids, and the price of school- and it's a shame when a student has the drive and desire to expand their knowledge, but are held back strictly due to finances. While the scholarships wont pay for the entire education- we know that it will help, and maybe give a child a reason, and the hope to push further with their dreams.

The RMHS Alumni Scholarship fund was created by Michele Petrillo (class of '81) in May 2009. When Petrillo came up with the idea she immediately approached Kerry Moots (class of '84) who thought it was a great idea since she had received a scholarship while at RMHS and felt it was important to give back..
Petrillo & Moots where so saddened to hear that the student had very few options for scholarships that their immediately committed to offer 2 scholarships for students each year starting in 2010. The scholarships would be a minimum of $1,500 each. Moots researched the different types of scholarships that were available and realized that there were no scholarships offered to students that have financial difficulties or hardship situations. So these 2 scholarship are for any student at RMHS that has been a student for at least 2 years, wants to further there education in a trade school, 2 year school or 4 year school. The fund is intended to help 2 students further their education that do not have the resources.

In June of 2009 Michele was contacted by the Orlando family and was asked if the RMHS ASF could also do a scholarship in the memory of Claudia Orlando. The family wanted the scholarship to go to a student that would like to become a teacher so the RMHS Claudia Orlando Teaching Scholarship was created. Starting in 2010 the RMHS ASF and the Orlando family are committed to awarding a least 1 scholarship per year in the amount of $250. They are hoping to be able to raise more money every year and be able to give out bigger scholarships and more scholarships.

One way that would help, would be to set aside a percentage of sales of your products, or your net profit- you can mention it in your shop listing, and it helps to spread the word even further by expanding the need to your customers as well... The Bronze level donation is only $25.... I know that some people may be thinking, "What if I don't sell enough at the percentage I had chosen?". Throwing in the additional to reach the tiered level would be awesome! I intend to do just that.

If you can, please help spread the word on your blog, or newsletters! Any help that you can give will be so much appreciated...

This is not a huge cause that is raking in bunches of money, they are doing their best to help just a few kids each year with what they get...

It's a Very Cherry World Has a New Themed Craft Swap!

It's called: "Initially Yours".

Participants will be paired with another person and, what you will do is, make something for them using only their first initial. (ex., S for Susan) You can make whatever you want: a tag, jewelry, clay, wood letter, etc.; thick, thin, big, small (just remember you have to pay the postage if it's big and heavy!) There are no limits but just be considerate regarding cost involved.

Sign-up will open Monday, May 9 and close Sunday, May 15th by leaving a comment on this post. Monday, May 16th I will randomly pair up everyone and post the list. Then you can find out what your partner's interests are if you need ideas for colors and embellishments, etc.

You will have a month to work on your project and mail it to your partner no later than Monday, June 13th. On the 13th I will make a Linky post where you can show off what you received!

Creativity Overload

I wonder if it's possible to get "Creativity Overload"?

That really is a joke. I'm riding it out, it has been incredible...

I have recently introduced 4 new types of products to my shop, and still have "more up my sleeve".

Of course, I have made soap...

But I also added to the shop: solid lotion sticks (kind of like a lotion on the go"), and then similar to that: solid lotion bars- they are the same product without the roll up container & lid (more for home usage).

Then... I added Handmade Custom Scented Laundry Soap (All Natural if you stick with essential oils for your fragrance- plus so many other benefits). I've been using the liquid soap version of this at home for a few months- I would never go back to store bought laundry soap. I did try the powder a few times also- I love it, if I weren't overloaded with my recycled bottles full of the liquid, I'd be tempted to switch over. The stuff really is great- I can't say enough about it. I did not however stick with completely natural on mine- I scented it with Yuzu- a Japanese grapefruit scented fragrance oil...

Last night I added a sample size, a 24 load, and a 48 load size of Handmade Custom Scented Dishwasher Soap. This is another product that I am exceptionally pleased with- the ecological benefits alone are enough to bring on your happy dance- but...it really works great! Makes me feel good when I know something I am bringing to the public is just so awesome! This also, I use at home- and this too, I opted for the fragrance oil. My dishes smell like pear tarts... *giggles* they do smell divine!
My intention on this is to sell the Laundry Soap in baggies as refills- or for those who want to use their own Tupperware-like container, as it really is much more economical to ship that way...

I've been shopping for scents again (uh oh)... Check out the list. I'm kinda like a shop-a-holic at a trendy shoe store, but I'm shopping fragrances- go figure...

Ok... So, besides a few embedded soaps and a men's soap, those were my newest. I do, however have a list (yes, really a LIST) of new products getting ready to make it to the listing process... To name a few:

*A long lasting bubble bath (gotta love bubble bath)
